Behind every finished piece of architectural metalwork is a process, a set of skilled hands and a workshop where ideas become reality.
At Ash Architectural, we're proud to manufacture our bespoke metalwork right here in Nottingham, combining over 35 years of manufacturing heritage with a passion for materials, craftsmanship and thoughtful design. Built off the back of Ash Door Furniture where we have been crafting bespoke pull door handles for over 35 years, Ash Architectural was born and is the next step in an exciting journey in crafting bespoke architectural metal work that not only functions but fits into its setting and looks like it belongs. Metal. Made.Beautiful.
While our website showcases the finished results, we wanted to share a little more about what happens behind the scenes, and the people and processes that bring each project to life.
Built on British Manufacturing
Ash Architectural is the next chapter in a family manufacturing business founded on quality, precision and a genuine appreciation for well-made products.
For years, our team has manufactured architectural door hardware for projects across the UK. Over time, our experience, machinery and knowledge of materials have allowed us to take on an increasingly varied range of bespoke metalwork.
Today, that includes everything from decorative brass detailing and architectural trims to planters, frames, counters, shelving and one-off feature pieces.
Although the projects may be different, our approach remains the same: understand the brief, consider the details and manufacture something we're proud to put our name to.
From a Drawing to the Workshop Floor
Many of the projects we manufacture begin with something relatively simple.
It might be an architect's drawing, a sketch from an interior designer or a customer with an idea they haven't quite worked out how to manufacture.
That's where our experience comes in.
Before a piece reaches the workshop floor, we look at the dimensions, materials, finishes, fixing requirements and practical considerations involved in manufacturing it.
Some projects are straightforward. Others require a little more thought, particularly when working with unusual shapes, specialist finishes or components that need to fit precisely within an existing space.
We enjoy that part of the process — finding practical ways to turn an idea into something tangible.
The Craft Behind the Finished Piece
Walk through our workshop and you'll find a combination of machinery, manufacturing processes and skilled people, all contributing to different stages of production.
Cutting, forming, machining, welding, polishing and finishing each play their part in turning raw materials into completed metalwork.
And while machinery allows us to work accurately and efficiently, the experience of the people operating it is just as important.
Understanding how a material behaves, how components fit together and how a finish will look once installed comes from years of hands-on manufacturing.
It's often the smallest details that make the biggest difference.
Materials That Make a Difference
One of the things we enjoy most about bespoke architectural metalwork is the variety of materials and finishes available.
Brass and bronze-effect finishes can introduce warmth and character into an interior, while stainless steel offers a clean, contemporary appearance.
Powder-coated metals provide opportunities for different colours, textures and applications.
Each material brings its own manufacturing considerations, and selecting the right combination of material, finish and fabrication method is an important part of achieving the desired result.
Whether it's a simple architectural trim or a bespoke statement feature, we believe the finish deserves as much consideration as the design itself.
More Than Just Metalwork
As a family-run business, the relationships we build with our customers are important to us.
We work with architects, interior designers, contractors, joinery manufacturers and private clients, often collaborating on projects where a standard product simply isn't suitable.
We understand that bespoke manufacturing requires communication, flexibility and attention to detail.
And there's something particularly satisfying about seeing a piece leave our workshop knowing it has been made specifically for the space it will eventually become part of.
Made in Nottingham. Made for Your Project.
We're proud of our manufacturing heritage, but we're equally excited about what comes next.
Ash Architectural allows us to bring our skills and experience to new ideas, different materials and increasingly varied projects.
We'll be sharing more from inside our workshop, including manufacturing processes, completed commissions, materials and the details behind some of the pieces we create.
Because good craftsmanship deserves to be seen.
